Bear Grylls is a famous TV host known for his show “Man vs Wild” on Discovery Channel. He was born on June 7, 1974, in Ireland, and his real name is Edward Michael Grylls. His nickname “Bear” was given by his great-grandmother Lara Fawcett shortly after he was born.
Grylls grew up with a military background, as his father, Michael Grylls, served in the British Navy. He attended Eton House, Ludgrove School, and Eton College for his education. Later, he earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of London.
During his teenage years, Grylls learned skydiving and karate. He is proficient in English, Spanish, and French. In 2000, he married Sarah Grylls, and they have three sons named Jess, Marmaduke, and Huckleberry.
After completing his education, Grylls joined the British Army and served in the United Kingdom Special Forces Reserve. He spent three years in the Special Air Service (SAS) until 1996. However, in 1996, Grylls suffered a serious injury during a parachute accident in Zambia, breaking three bones in his spine. In 2004, Grylls was appointed as a Lieutenant Commander of the Royal Naval Reserve. Later, in 2013, he was honored with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel of the Royal Marine Reserve. In June 2021, he was awarded the title of Colonel in the British Army.
