Margot Robbie, who played Barbie in the movie of the same name, has finally spoken about the Oscars nominations that upset many people on the Internet. Margot Robbie and director Greta Gerwig did not get nominated for Best Actress and Best Director respectively. Margot Robbie talked to Variety about not getting nominated, saying, “I feel very lucky, even though I didn’t get nominated.” But she said she was a little sad that Greta Gerwig wasn’t nominated. She said, “I think Greta should be nominated. What she did was amazing. But it’s been a great year for all the films.”
Margot Robbie also talked about how people reacted to not getting nominated. She said, “The best part of this experience has been seeing how people reacted to the movie.” She said, “Whether it’s seeing what people are saying online, or just seeing how much pink there is in this room right now. I’ve never been part of something like this before. It feels really different. And I can’t think of another movie that has had such an effect on culture. It’s amazing to be in the middle of it.”
However, Margot Robbie’s co-stars Ryan Gosling and America Ferrera did get nominated for Best Supporting Actor and Best Supporting Actress respectively. The movie was also nominated for Best Picture. Earlier, Ryan Gosling said in an interview with People that he was disappointed that Margot Robbie and Greta Gerwig didn’t get nominated.
He said, “There is no Ken without Barbie, and there is no Barbie movie without Greta Gerwig and Margot Robbie.” He said, “Their talent, hard work, and creativity made this movie possible. They made us laugh, they made us cry, they changed the culture, and they made history. They deserve to be recognized along with the other nominees.”
“Barbie,” released in 2023, was a huge success and featured Margot Robbie as Barbie, Ryan Gosling as Ken, and America Ferrera, Simu Liu, Kate McKinnon, Issa Rae, Rhea Perlman, and Will Ferrell in supporting roles. The movie is a modern version of the Barbie story. In the movie, Barbie learns about the real world and the problems of patriarchy when she leaves her dreamy homeland.
