The standout surprise was the inclusion of two movies from Bangladesh, marking a significant moment for Bangladeshi cinema. Topping the list is the Bhutanese movie ‘the monk and the gun,’ which offers a glimpse into the lives of Bhutanese people during times when internet and television were scarce. This film has garnered critical acclaim, earning the top spot on the list of Asia’s top 10 movies and securing a place on this year’s Oscar shortlist.

Another noteworthy entry is an Indian documentary that clinched the second position on the list. This documentary, which also vied for an Oscar nomination, shines a light on important social issues.

In third place is Pakistan’s ‘Inflex,’ directed by Zara Khan. This film made waves at the Cannes Film Festival, showcasing the talent and creativity of Pakistani cinema. Following closely is another Pakistani movie, ‘IM Sirad,’ which delves into the experiences of transgender individuals. Director Sirad’s dual role as both director and actor adds depth to the film, which also made waves at the London festival.

At number five is ‘Something Like An Autobiography’ by Mustafa Faruqi, a film that garnered attention at the Busan Film Festival. The Indian Malayalam movie ‘Paradise’ secured the sixth spot, showcasing the rich storytelling tradition of Indian cinema.

Seventh on the list is a Nepalese film titled ‘The Rate Suit,’ which captivated audiences with its compelling narrative. Rounding out the top ten is the Bangladeshi movie ‘Bari Naam Shahana,’ which revolves around the story of a divorced woman. This film has earned acclaim and recognition, winning several awards.
