  • Microsoft’s Future Foldable: A Two-Way Hinge Design

    Microsoft’s Future Foldable: A Two-Way Hinge Design

The first-generation Microsoft Surface Duo was released in late 2020 as a foldable phone, but it differed significantly from the innovative design of the Galaxy Fold series. Instead of a flexible OLED panel, the Surface Duo featured two regular screens separated by uneven bezels. Its second-generation model, released the following year, didn’t introduce any physical changes either. While the Surface Duo wasn’t known for its design, it did have a unique feature: the ability to fold in both directions. According to a recent report, Microsoft plans to continue this capability in its future foldable devices.

    Microsoft

Detailed design sketches of a purported Microsoft foldable phone have emerged, revealing the inner workings of this clamshell-style flip phone. The patent filing includes outlines of the device, indicating a 360-degree hinge, likely an enhanced version of what we saw on the Surface Duo. This hinge has components that move forward to support the flexible display when the phone is open and retract when it’s closed to reduce pressure on the display.

However, implementing a bi-folding hinge on a flexible display is more challenging than on a device like the Surface Duo with two separate screens. Flexible panels on mainstream foldable phones are delicate and designed to fold in only one direction, with their center curve supported by the hinge. On a 360-degree hinge, the display must fold in both directions, subjecting it to additional stress during everyday use. The hinge itself must handle the display crease and any bulging, depending on the direction of the fold.

It’s essential to keep in mind that patent filings typically don’t reveal the complete picture, so this Microsoft flip phone design should be taken with caution. Nonetheless, it’s intriguing to see what the company has in store for its next foldable device and whether this flip phone design with a two-way hinge will become a reality.

While existing Surface Duo models are nearing the end of their lifecycle, there hasn’t been a solid indication of a new Microsoft foldable device coming anytime soon. However, this patent filing suggests that the company is still exploring foldable technology. In the meantime, if you’re looking for a foldable phone, the Galaxy Fold 5 is currently your best option.

  • 3 Reasons Why iPhone 15 is Perfect Smartphone for You

3 Reasons Why iPhone 15 is Perfect Smartphone for You

The upcoming iPhone 15 lineup is generating a lot of excitement, especially the flagship iPhone 15 Pro Max. However, it’s worth taking a closer look at the entry-level iPhone 15, as it offers some compelling reasons for users to consider it as their next smartphone. Whether you’re a current iPhone 14 user looking to upgrade or thinking about switching from Android to iOS, here are three key reasons to consider the entry-level iPhone 15.

    iPhone 15

    Compact Size

In a world where smartphones seem to be getting larger and larger, the entry-level iPhone 15 stands out for its smaller and more manageable size. While many users appreciate the larger screens on modern phones, there’s still a significant demand for compact devices that fit comfortably in your hand and pocket. The iPhone 15 is expected to maintain the same dimensions as its predecessor, the iPhone 14, with a 6.1-inch display. This size strikes a balance between offering a decent screen real estate and ensuring the phone remains easy to handle.

Compared to the iPhone 14 Pro Max, which boasts a massive 6.7-inch screen and weighs 240g, the standard iPhone 15 is a more pocket-friendly choice at 172g. So, if you prefer a smartphone that’s small but perfectly formed, the entry-level iPhone 15 is a compelling option.

    Affordable Pricing

While Apple’s flagship models tend to come with premium price tags, the entry-level iPhone 15 offers a more budget-friendly alternative. While we anticipate price increases across the iPhone lineup this year, the standard iPhone 15 is expected to remain relatively affordable compared to its Pro counterparts.

Last year, the Pro models carried a £150 premium over the standard models, and similar pricing strategies are expected this time. While price hikes may occur, the entry-level iPhone 15 should still be a more wallet-friendly choice, making it an attractive option for users looking for a cost-effective iPhone experience.

    Camera Improvements

Apple consistently enhances the camera capabilities of its new iPhone models, and the iPhone 15 is no exception. While the spotlight may be on the iPhone 15 Pro Max with its rumored periscope lens for improved optical zoom, the standard iPhone 15 is also expected to see notable camera upgrades.

One of the significant enhancements is the rumored transition from 12MP sensors to 48MP sensors, a substantial improvement in resolution. This upgrade will likely enable features like ProRaw support, allowing users to capture high-quality, uncompressed images. While it may not match the Pro Max’s advanced zoom capabilities, these camera improvements should be more than sufficient for the average smartphone photographer.

  • Huawei Mate 60 Set to Offer Satellite Calls and Messaging: Leak Reveals

Huawei Mate 60 Set to Offer Satellite Calls and Messaging: Leak Reveals

Last year’s top-tier Huawei Mate 50 series smartphones had a standout feature: the ability to use satellite communications. This means that if there’s an emergency and regular mobile networks are not available, these smartphones can still send messages.

    Huawei Mate 50

Now, in the upcoming Huawei Mate 60 series, this feature is getting even better. According to a leaked source, the new Huawei Mate 60 smartphones will not only have the capability to send messages in such situations but also to make calls via satellite, all without needing regular mobile networks.

To enable this functionality, these phones will come equipped with power amplifier (PA) chips made by Chinese chip manufacturers. Additionally, the communication will be supported by another Chinese satellite system called Tiantong.

This system is specially designed for various purposes like voice communication, accurate positioning, as well as sending images and data. The official launch of the Huawei Mate 60 is anticipated for this upcoming autumn.

  • Honor Magic V2: The Outward-Folding Innovation Set to Compete Globally

Honor Magic V2: The Outward-Folding Innovation Set to Compete Globally

Just a month ago, Honor revealed its latest technological advancement with the Magic 2, an impressively thin foldable smartphone. The company has bold plans to introduce this state-of-the-art device to global markets in the upcoming month. Honor Magic V2 aims to directly challenge Huawei’s Mate X3 foldable phone and also compete with well-established players like Samsung and Xiaomi.

    Magic 2

Several well-known brands, including Samsung, OPPO, Vivo, Xiaomi, and Honor, have entered the foldable phone arena with models featuring inward folding displays. However, Huawei has distinguished itself by adopting a unique outward folding design, showcased in the Mate Xs series. This approach sets it apart, providing a slimmer and more streamlined profile compared to the conventional inward folding models. The single, expansive foldable screen contributes to this distinctiveness.

In a strategic move to rival Huawei’s offering, Honor has dedicated its efforts to crafting an outward foldable phone, which is already in the works. A recent development saw an Honor device, identified by the model number VCA-AN00, successfully obtaining network licensing from telecom authorities. Insiders have given this model the codename “Victoria,” widely believed to represent Honor’s forthcoming outward foldable phone.

Anticipated to be Honor’s groundbreaking outward foldable display smartphone, the “Victoria” stands out from devices with smaller folding screens by featuring a spacious 2K eye-friendly display. If we follow Huawei’s naming patterns, the device could potentially hit the market as the Honor Magic Vs2. This strategic decision underscores Honor’s unwavering commitment to embracing innovation and going head-to-head with the pioneers of foldable technology in the market.

  • Nokia’s Retro Phones: A Nostalgic Solution to Social Media Overuse!

Nokia’s Retro Phones: A Nostalgic Solution to Social Media Overuse!

You don’t have to do extreme things to stop using social media too much. You can put your phone in a drawer or make it show colors that are not so nice to look at, but there are easier ways to take a break. Think about old-fashioned phones, for example.

    Nokia 150

These phones are like a blast from the past, when phones couldn’t go on the internet. It’s like going back to a time when your ringtone was more important than your profile picture and we used to type smiley faces in our texts.

You’re in luck if you want to feel like it’s 1999 again. Nokia has made two phones that look like the ones from the past, with buttons you can press. They remind us of the cool 8210 phone. Nokia is known for making good phones that are simple and bring back good old memories. The Nokia 150 and 130 are just like those.

So, if you still like talking on the phone instead of sending voice messages, and typing out texts instead of getting almost right messages, these phones are for you. You won’t find TikTok or Tinder on these phones, but you can play a game called Snake if you’re bored. Trust me, it’s fun to see your friend’s face when they see you playing.

The Nokia 150 also has a long battery, so you can talk a lot. And if you miss your iPod, this phone can play music, but you have to use wired headphones – no Bluetooth here.

You might still need a friend with a Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 when you want to take a picture with a group. The Nokia 150’s camera is not very good, it takes pictures that aren’t so clear because of its small 0.3-megapixel lens.

They might think you’re crazy when they see that your Nokia 130 doesn’t even have a camera. But you know what? While they’re stuck on TikTok, you can enjoy nature, read a book, or meditate. And they spent a lot of money on their new phone, but you didn’t spend much on yours.

The Nokia 130 and 150 cost about £40, so they can be good gifts for young people, or good phones to use for a short time.

  • Tecno’s Pova 5 Pro: Powerful Features and Budget-Friendly Price

Tecno’s Pova 5 Pro: Powerful Features and Budget-Friendly Price

Tecno recently introduced its new smartphone, the Pova 5 Pro, in Indonesia after giving a sneak peek in India. This phone falls into the midrange category and has a cool feature on the back – a light strip that can light up to show notifications. Let’s get into the details about its specifications and price.

    Tecno

The Tecno Pova 5 Pro comes with a huge 6.78-inch screen that shows crisp images in Full HD+. The screen also refreshes quickly, 120 times per second, making everything look smooth. You can unlock the phone using a fingerprint sensor on the side. When it comes to taking pictures, the phone has two cameras on the back. The main one has 50 megapixels, which means it takes really clear photos. There’s another camera that uses smart technology to help improve your photos.

Inside the phone, there’s a powerful Dimensity 6080 chip that helps it work really fast. Imagine having two brains to think and work together – that’s how the 8GB of RAM and extra 8GB of “virtual” RAM make the phone multitask easily. The phone also has a lot of space for your apps, photos, and stuff with 256GB of storage.

Don’t worry about the battery running out quickly. The phone has a big 5,000mAh battery, and it charges really fast – from zero to full in no time with the 68W fast charger. The phone uses the Android 13 system, and it’s designed to stay cool even when you use it a lot, thanks to a special cooling system inside.

One cool thing that makes this phone stand out is the colorful light on the back. It lights up with different colors when you play games, charge the phone, or get messages and calls. It’s like the phone’s way of talking to you with lights.

The Pova 5 Pro also has two speakers that make your music and videos sound better. And when you touch the screen, it feels like the phone is talking back to you with small vibrations.

The phone can do many things. It can hold two SIM cards, connect to super-fast 5G internet, and also connect to Wi-Fi. It talks to other devices using Bluetooth and GPS helps it find its way. You can charge it or connect it to other things with a USB-C cable, and you can use your regular headphones with the special hole for them.
