Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’s name has become quite popular all over the world. His path to becoming the popular leader of today’s Turkey was not easy for him. He earned his living by selling bread and lemonade as a child. At one time, he wanted to be a footballer.

The financial situation of Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’s family was not very favorable. He used to get a small allowance from his father. They were quite interested in reading books. Before entering college, he built a personal library with his own earnings.

He used to work as a footballer. He got a chance to play in Istanbul Football Club. Later he was registered for the national team. However, he could not continue playing football due to his father’s disapproval.

Later he enrolled in Marmara University in Istanbul. He was able to become the mayor of the municipality in the local government elections of 1989. Then in the general election of 1991, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan was elected as a member of parliament from the Islamic political party.

In 1999, Erdogan was jailed for four months for reciting a popular nationalist poem. 2001 a new political party called the Justice and Development Party emerged. In 2003, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan was sworn in as the 25th president from this party.

From that time till now he has been sitting in the top political power of the country. In 2014, he was nominated as the president by direct popular vote. In 2003, he was elected as the president for the third consecutive time.

Many of Erdoğan’s supporters refer to him as the Sultan. Erdogan played a strong role in preventing the 2016 coup. Turkey now maintains good relations with Muslim countries including the Middle East.
