While autonomous cars and flying vehicles were the highlights, there was one intriguing addition: an eMTB (electric mountain bike).

By examining the images, it’s evident that the design of this concept bike shares visual similarities with the Honda RN01 DH bike, which never made it into production.

    This resemblance is likely due to the influence of Honda’s power sports team on the design. Notably, the eMTB features a swingarm shape and shock placement reminiscent of the RNO1, although the ebike uses a cast aluminum swingarm. The unique frame and swingarm are constructed using thin-wall aluminum casting technology employed in high-performance motorcycles. Together with the distinctive frame design, they aim to blend functionality and style.

    It’s essential to remember that this is merely a concept, so there’s uncertainty about how much of it will make it to production, if at all. What makes the eMTB concept even more interesting is the mobile charging station showcased at the Japan Mobility Show. Honda provides limited details about this, but it appears to house their new Mobile Power Pack e:, which seems to be a high-capacity energy storage unit. The lid of the Power Pack e: container even includes a small toolset for trailhead adjustments. While this unit may not charge the bike any faster than a regular outlet, it could prove incredibly useful for recharging during extended ebike adventures in remote areas, such as multi-day trips while camping.

    From Dirt Bikes to Reggae Vibes: The Unique Story of an Irie Triumph Street Twin

    In the world of motorcycle customization, one can truly say, “your bike, your marriage.” And what if that marriage includes a reggae-inspired paint job? Well, that’s precisely what one motorcycle enthusiast requested, and Vietnam’s MFix Workshop brought this unique vision to life on a Triumph Street Twin.

    This Triumph Street Twin may exude an “irie” vibe with its reggae-themed design, but don’t be fooled – it packs a punch when it comes to performance. The owner of this custom motorcycle isn’t just a reggae music fan; he’s also an avid dirt bike rider. This custom build combines both worlds, offering a striking appearance and a thrilling ride.

    The customization journey began with a focus on the electronics. The client wanted a comprehensive suite of Motogadget electronics with smartphone integration, and that’s where MFix Workshop started. They removed the bike’s original wiring loom and replaced it with a Bluetooth-enabled Motogadget mo.unit controller. They also installed a lightweight Lithium-ion battery and a special box from Peak-Mod that allows for aftermarket speedometer use.

    All these components fit neatly under the seat and are secured with red, yellow, and green cable ties. Digging deeper into the bike’s performance, MFix upgraded the engine with a new camshaft from TEC, a Dynojet Power Commander 6 ECU, heavy-duty EBS clutch plates, and other performance-enhancing modifications. They also removed the Street Twin’s emissions sensors to enhance its breathing.

    The suspension and running gear also received a complete overhaul. MFix Workshop equipped the bike with adjustable Öhlins FG 621 forks in the front, along with CNC-machined yokes and a Matris steering damper. At the rear, they added an aluminum swingarm from a Triumph Thruxton R, paired with adjustable K-Tech Razor shocks.

    This upgraded suspension not only enhances performance but also gives the Street Twin a more respectable ride height. The motorcycle now rides on 19-inch front and 17-inch rear wheels from Kineo, wrapped in Metzeler Tourance tires, offering excellent street grip with a hint of gravel capability. Brembo Serie Oro brake calipers ensure reliable stopping power, and a Triumph Scrambler 1200 side stand accommodates the increased ground clearance.

    In terms of bodywork, MFix Workshop shortened the Street Twin’s subframe and added a handcrafted composite flat track tail section. Topped with a leather seat, this tail section perfectly complements the Triumph’s stock fuel tank.

    The front end features a powerful LED headlight and an enduro-style cowl from Rigid, mounted above a custom split mudguard design and flat track-style fork protectors. Towards the rear, you’ll find a bespoke MFix Performance radiator and an Evotech skid plate. Custom aluminum side panels complete the look.

    MFix Workshop’s task was to turn this Triumph Street Twin into a true reflection of the client’s vision. Beyond the Rastafari-inspired design, the owner, who is a fan of the classic Yamaha SR400, wanted special engine badges that pay homage to it. These badges read ‘SR900’ and ‘SR400/500,’ referencing the Street Twin’s 900 cc engine. The lime green Acerbis heat shield attached to the robust two-into-one Zard exhaust system was another client-specified detail.

    Suzuki is adding two new models, the V-Strom 800 and V-Strom 800 Touring, to its popular V-Strom 800 range in the United States. These new models offer a street-oriented approach and aim to provide comfort and performance for various riding purposes, including commuting, sports riding, and long-distance touring.

    Both the V-Strom 800 and V-Strom 800 Touring utilize the same modern 776cc parallel-twin engine found in the more off-road-focused DE model. They feature cast aluminum wheels, 19 inches in the front and 17 inches in the rear, fitted with Dunlop’s D614F/D614 tubeless ADV tires designed for on-road performance. These changes cater to a smoother and more road-friendly riding experience.

    To enhance their on-road capabilities, these models now come equipped with a new 43mm SHOWA SFF-BP (Separate Function Fork – Big Piston) inverted front fork and a SHOWA rear shock. These suspension components are optimized to improve straight-line stability and cornering performance for street riding, while still offering moderate off-road capabilities. The rear shock has a remote, hand-operated hydraulic spring preload adjuster, allowing riders to quickly adjust suspension settings to accommodate passengers or additional cargo.

    The suspension travel on these models is reduced from 8.7 inches (220mm) to 5.9 inches (150mm) both at the front and rear. This change results in a lower ground clearance of 7.3 inches (185mm) and a more approachable seat height of 32.5 inches (825mm), down from 33.7 inches (855mm). The design of the 5.3-gallon (20-liter) fuel tank has been altered to be narrower towards the rear, creating a seamless connection with the slim seat and making it easier for riders to reach the ground when stopped.

    The V-Strom 800 and V-Strom 800 Touring come with a steel frame, steel sub-frame, and an aluminum swingarm. The front fork features radially mounted NISSIN four-piston brake calipers gripping a pair of 310mm stainless steel brake rotors, while the rear wheel has a single 260mm disc. These models are equipped with a compact ABS system, offering two different mode settings for varying road conditions. Mode 1 minimizes anti-lock brake intervention, while Mode 2 increases anti-lock brake intervention.

    For rider comfort, both models feature a tall and wide adjustable windscreen, a wide handlebar with vibration-damping qualities, a supportive seat, and rubber-padded footpegs. The V-Strom 800 Touring version includes handguards and a 35-liter plastic top case, which can be operated with the motorcycle’s ignition key, as standard equipment.

    Like the V-Strom 800DE, the V-Strom 800 and V-Strom 800 Touring come with a full-color 5-inch TFT LCD multifunction instrument panel. This panel provides riders with control over Suzuki’s Intelligent Ride System (S.I.R.S.), which includes features like the Suzuki Drive Mode Selector, Suzuki Traction Control System, and Suzuki’s Bi-Directional Quick Shift System, allowing quick and easy up or downshifting without using the clutch lever.

    These models offer a range of Genuine Suzuki Accessories, such as plastic side cases, multiple top case options, engine guards, a center stand, low- and high-profile seats, heated hand grips, fog lamps, and more. The available Genuine Suzuki Accessory aluminum side cases and top cases come with a robust locking system and a distinct key separate from the motorcycle’s ignition key.

    The V-Strom 800 and V-Strom 800 Touring models are expected to arrive at dealerships in Spring 2024. The starting price for the V-Strom 800 is $9,899, while the Touring variant is priced at $10,499. Each model will be offered in distinct colors, with the V-Strom 800 available in Metallic Matte Steel Green and the V-Strom 800 Touring in Glass Sparkle Black.
