  • Honor 100 Series: Massive Innovative Designs Sets a New Standard

Honor 100 Series: Massive Innovative Designs Sets a New Standard

Honor has revealed the much-anticipated Honor 100 series, set for an official release on November 23. The lineup includes the Honor 100 and the Honor 100 Pro, each featuring distinctive design elements. Real-life images provide insights into the visual differences, particularly highlighting the unique features of the Pro model.

    Honor 100

The Honor 100 comes in three color options: black, white, and a gradient finish. Its camera setup follows a classic rectangular shape, accompanied by a stylish semi-circular decorative band. Positioned in the middle are two cameras.

On the other hand, the Honor 100 Pro introduces four color variants, including classic black and white, along with two dual-tone options in cyan and purple. The Pro model stands out with its innovative use of materials on the back panel, incorporating a patchwork of glass and plain leather. Although this unconventional approach poses manufacturing challenges, it adds a touch of sophistication to the device.

The camera module on the Honor 100 Pro deviates from traditional designs, featuring a shape inspired by the Möbius ring concept. Despite its seemingly disorderly appearance, the Möbius ring represents an infinite loop, contributing a layer of symbolism to the phone’s aesthetics. Upon closer inspection, the Honor 100 Pro reveals three cameras on the rear, with a notable 50-megapixel main camera, complemented by Optical Image Stabilization (OIS) for enhanced photography capabilities.

Leaked specifications include the use of the Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 for the Honor 100 and the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 for the Honor 100 Pro. The distinctive designs and advanced features of the Honor 100 series suggest an exciting release for smartphone enthusiasts.

  • Parker Solar Probe: Journey to the Sun’s Heart Sets New Speed Record

Parker Solar Probe: Journey to the Sun’s Heart Sets New Speed Record

NASA’s Parker Solar Probe, the winner of PopSci’s Best of What’s New in 2018, continues to achieve remarkable feats. The spacecraft has been progressively moving closer to the sun than any previous spacecraft, setting new speed records along the way. In a recent update from NASA, it was revealed that the Parker Solar Probe has once again broken its own record by becoming the fastest human-made object, reaching an incredible speed of 394,736 miles per hour.

    Parker Solar Probe

This milestone was accomplished thanks to a gravity-assist flyby from Venus. The record-breaking event occurred during the probe’s 17th “solar encounter,” which took place from September 27 to October 3. To put this extraordinary speed into perspective, the Parker Solar Probe could hypothetically complete about 15 circumnavigations of Earth in a single hour or traverse the distance between New York City and Los Angeles in just 20 seconds. However, such a journey would be unsurvivable for human passengers, but it remains an impressive achievement.

During this recent encounter, the probe also set a new record for proximity to the sun, coming within a mere 4.51 million miles from the sun’s scorching plasma “surface.” To withstand temperatures reaching nearly 2,500 degrees Fahrenheit, the Parker Solar Probe is equipped with a 4.5-inch-thick carbon-composite shield to safeguard its sensitive instruments.

These instruments play a crucial role in measuring and imaging the sun’s surface, advancing our understanding of the origins and evolution of solar winds. Additionally, they aid in predicting changes in space environments that could impact life on Earth. In a significant event last month, the probe passed through one of the most intense coronal mass ejections (CMEs) ever observed, confirming a two-decade-old theory that CMEs interact with interplanetary dust. This discovery will enhance experts’ capabilities in forecasting space weather.

Despite the grueling conditions it encounters, NASA reports that the Parker Solar Probe remains in excellent health, with all systems operating normally. The mission is far from over, with seven more solar encounters planned through 2024. By that time, within the orbit of Mercury, the Parker Solar Probe will meet its poetic end, vaporizing into the sun’s intense solar winds, as one mission researcher described it back in 2021.

For our 2-stroke enthusiasts, we’ve introduced Throttle Body Injection (TBI) with premix, modernizing the engines for clean, powerful performance throughout the rev range. The new electronic exhaust control enhances power and durability by effectively managing exhaust port openings.

The heart of these bikes is the new engine, combining mass centralization, reduced weight, and increased power. The unified motor position on all 4-stroke models enhances overall handling consistency.

  • Honor Magic V2 Sets New Records for Foldable Phones: Slimness and Weight Achievements

Honor Magic V2 Sets New Records for Foldable Phones: Slimness and Weight Achievements

With the launch of Xiaomi’s Mix Fold 2 last year, it was expected that other brands would soon follow with similarly slim foldable phones. This year, we saw Huawei’s Mate X3 and Google’s Pixel Fold, which both offered impressive thinness. Now, another Chinese brand, Honor, has surpassed Huawei with an even slimmer and lighter foldable phone called the Honor Magic V2.

    Xiaomi's Mix Fold 2

The Honor Magic V2 is the first foldable phone to have a folded thickness of less than 1cm and weighs less than top flagship candybar phones like the Apple iPhone 14 Pro Max and Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra. When folded, it measures just 9.9mm thick, and when unfolded, it is only 4.7mm thick.

It weighs only 231g, making it lighter than the Oppo Find N2 and Mate X3. The Magic V2 achieved this breakthrough by incorporating a new hinge design made from 3D-printed aerospace-grade titanium and proprietary steel parts. It also features a flexible OLED panel from China’s BOE and has been certified to withstand over 400,000 folds by TÜV Rheinland.

The Magic V2 comes with a 5,000mAh battery, surpassing other foldable phones in terms of capacity. It supports Honor’s 66W fast charging but does not support wireless charging due to the device’s slimness. Honor had to slim down various components like the vapor cooling chamber, antenna, aluminum mid-frame, fingerprint module, USB-C connector, and speakers to achieve this compact design.

The phone offers a 6.43-inch OLED screen on the outside and a 7.92-inch flexible panel when unfolded, both with adaptive refresh rates of up to 120Hz and HDR10+ support. The displays also feature eye protection measures to reduce eye fatigue and aid better sleep.

The Magic V2 is equipped with flagship-level specifications, including Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, up to 16GB of RAM, up to 1TB of storage, NFC, triple microphones, Bluetooth 5.3, and infrared remote capabilities. It runs on MagicOS 7.2, based on Android 13, promising fast performance for 50 months.

The rear camera setup includes a 50MP main camera with optical stabilization, a 50MP ultra-wide camera, and a 20MP 2.5x zoom camera, all with optical stabilization. There are also 16MP selfie cameras on both the external and internal displays. The Magic V2 is available for pre-order in China, starting at 8,999 yuan (approximately $1,250) for the 256GB version and going up to 11,999 yuan ($1,670) for the 1TB Ultimate Edition.

While it remains uncertain if the Magic V2 will have a global release, enthusiasts can find ways to acquire it from China. Honor has not provided confirmation on international availability but may reveal more details at IFA in September. Meanwhile, there is anticipation for Samsung’s upcoming foldable phones, which are expected to compete with the Magic V2 in terms of quality and features.
