The SID 2024 exhibition in San Jose has been the stage for a revolutionary unveiling by TCL: the world’s first 7.85-inch tri-foldable smartphone. This device, which pioneers the “Free-type” screen technology, is set to redefine the mobile experience with its unparalleled versatility and innovative design.

    Innovative “Free-type” Screen Technology

TCL’s “Free-type” technology enables the smartphone’s screen to transition between “G-shaped” and “Z-shaped” folds, offering a tablet-like display ratio when fully extended. This adaptability provides a seamless transition from a traditional smartphone to a larger, tablet-esque interface, catering to a range of user needs.

    Energy-Efficient and Bright Display

The tri-foldable screen integrates cutting-edge low-power technologies such as Tandem, LTPO, and PLP, ensuring high brightness without compromising on battery life. Users can indulge in prolonged usage with the assurance of energy efficiency and longevity.

    Sleek and Portable Design

With a thickness of just 472 microns and an overall device thickness of 17 mm, TCL’s tri-foldable smartphone boasts a slim profile that doesn’t sacrifice screen size, thanks to its ultra-narrow bezel design.

    Under-Screen Face Authentication

TCL Huaxing also introduced the world’s first 7.85-inch under-screen face authentication flexible screen, employing SUP technology for a seamless and secure unlocking experience. This feature, combined with a consistent pixel density across the screen, offers both security and a uniform visual experience.

    High-Performance and Versatility

The device’s LTPO technology supports a refresh rate of up to 120Hz, making it ideal for a variety of applications, from gaming to video streaming. The tri-foldable smartphone’s launch signifies a pivotal moment in mobile technology, offering new levels of flexibility and convenience.

TCL Huaxing’s commitment to innovation is evident in their latest tri-foldable smartphone, which promises to introduce novel interactions with mobile devices and pave the way for future advancements in technology.

CES 2024 Smartphone Roundup: From Gaming Titans to Budget-Friendly TCL

Let’s talk about the best smartphones we saw at CES 2024. CES is a big tech show in Las Vegas where companies show off new gadgets. We usually see cool TVs and car stuff, but this year, there are also awesome new smartphones. Here are some of the best ones!

    ROG Phone 8

First, we have the Asus ROG Phone 8 Pro. Asus is famous for gaming, and this phone is like a gaming beast. It runs on Android 14 and has a super-fast chip inside. The phone comes with 16GB of memory and 512GB of storage, but you can get an even fancier version with 24GB of memory and 1TB of storage.

The screen is big, 6.78 inches, and it can refresh really fast, especially when playing games. The display is also bright and clear. The phone is tough too – it can handle water and dust. The cameras on this phone are top-notch, with a 50MP main camera and other cool features. The battery is huge, 5,500mAh, and it won’t overheat even if you play games for a long time. It charges really fast, either with a wire or without wires. Plus, there’s a little LED display on the back that shows fun animations.

They also have a special edition called the ROG Phone 8 Pro Edition. This one has a cooling fan to keep it from getting too hot during intense gaming. It even has a headphone jack!

Now, Asus has another good phone, the ROG Phone 8. It’s almost the same as the Pro version but without the cool LED animations on the back. It’s still a great gaming phone with a big screen and powerful features.

Next up, TCL. TCL is known for affordable phones, and at CES 2024, they introduced seven new ones! Let’s focus on the TCL 50 XL 5G. It has a huge 6.8-inch display with great sound. The phone starts with 8GB of memory and has a big battery, 5,010mAh, so it lasts a long time. It’s a good choice for people who are always on the move.

TCL also has something unique – NxtPaper smartphones. These phones have screens that look and feel like paper, so there’s no glare, especially when you’re outside. TCL didn’t share all the details, but it sounds interesting and different.

  • Innovative TCL 40 NXTPAPER 5G Smartphone with Unique Display Technology

Innovative TCL 40 NXTPAPER 5G Smartphone with Unique Display Technology

TCL has introduced a new smartphone called the TCL 40 NXTPAPER 5G, which comes with a unique display technology called NXTPAPER. This technology was initially designed for tablets and e-readers, but TCL has now incorporated it into their smartphones. The TCL 40 NXTPAPER models are budget-friendly options that prioritize eye comfort and offer mid- to low-range specifications.

    TCL 40

NXTPAPER is described by TCL as a blend of a screen and paper, delivering 25 percent more contrast than regular E-Ink displays and consuming 65 percent less power. This latest version of NXTPAPER boasts a brightness of up to 500 nits and claims to exceed certified levels for reducing blue light. This technology aims to protect users’ eye health while maintaining accurate colors and avoiding screen discoloration. Additionally, the display’s color temperature adjusts automatically according to the time of day and the surrounding environment.

Two models of the TCL 40 NXTPAPER series have been introduced: the TCL 40 NXTPAPER and the TCL 40 NXTPAPER 5G. Despite sharing the NXTPAPER name, they have distinct designs and specifications. The former model features a 6.78-inch FHD+ NXTPAPER display with a 32-megapixel front camera located within a punch hole. Its rear camera is 50 megapixels. It is equipped with a MediaTek Helio G88 processor, 8GB of RAM, and 256GB of storage that can be expanded using a microSD card. This model offers 4G connectivity and will be available for €199 ($215) in Europe starting from September 2023.

On the other hand, the TCL 40 NXTPAPER 5G, as indicated by its name, supports 5G connectivity. However, its specifications are somewhat downgraded. It sports a smaller 6.5-inch HD+ notch-type display with an 8-megapixel front camera and a 50-megapixel rear camera. The device is powered by MediaTek’s MT6833v processor, tailored for 5G compatibility, and it provides 6GB of RAM and 256GB of expandable storage. This model will go on sale in Europe in October for €249 ($269). Both versions of the phone are expected to be released worldwide later in 2023.

While the specifications are important, the standout feature of these smartphones is the NXTPAPER display technology. Despite the differences between the models, both have a 5,000mAh battery and given the claimed power efficiency of the display, they are expected to offer extended battery life. The true test, however, will be how well the NXTPAPER display performs in providing a satisfying smartphone experience.
