  • From Dirt Bikes to Reggae Vibes: The Unique Story of an Irie Triumph Street Twin

From Dirt Bikes to Reggae Vibes: The Unique Story of an Irie Triumph Street Twin

In the world of motorcycle customization, one can truly say, “your bike, your marriage.” And what if that marriage includes a reggae-inspired paint job? Well, that’s precisely what one motorcycle enthusiast requested, and Vietnam’s MFix Workshop brought this unique vision to life on a Triumph Street Twin.

    Suzuki Burgman

This Triumph Street Twin may exude an “irie” vibe with its reggae-themed design, but don’t be fooled – it packs a punch when it comes to performance. The owner of this custom motorcycle isn’t just a reggae music fan; he’s also an avid dirt bike rider. This custom build combines both worlds, offering a striking appearance and a thrilling ride.

The customization journey began with a focus on the electronics. The client wanted a comprehensive suite of Motogadget electronics with smartphone integration, and that’s where MFix Workshop started. They removed the bike’s original wiring loom and replaced it with a Bluetooth-enabled Motogadget mo.unit controller. They also installed a lightweight Lithium-ion battery and a special box from Peak-Mod that allows for aftermarket speedometer use.

All these components fit neatly under the seat and are secured with red, yellow, and green cable ties. Digging deeper into the bike’s performance, MFix upgraded the engine with a new camshaft from TEC, a Dynojet Power Commander 6 ECU, heavy-duty EBS clutch plates, and other performance-enhancing modifications. They also removed the Street Twin’s emissions sensors to enhance its breathing.

The suspension and running gear also received a complete overhaul. MFix Workshop equipped the bike with adjustable Öhlins FG 621 forks in the front, along with CNC-machined yokes and a Matris steering damper. At the rear, they added an aluminum swingarm from a Triumph Thruxton R, paired with adjustable K-Tech Razor shocks.

This upgraded suspension not only enhances performance but also gives the Street Twin a more respectable ride height. The motorcycle now rides on 19-inch front and 17-inch rear wheels from Kineo, wrapped in Metzeler Tourance tires, offering excellent street grip with a hint of gravel capability. Brembo Serie Oro brake calipers ensure reliable stopping power, and a Triumph Scrambler 1200 side stand accommodates the increased ground clearance.

    Suzuki Burgman

In terms of bodywork, MFix Workshop shortened the Street Twin’s subframe and added a handcrafted composite flat track tail section. Topped with a leather seat, this tail section perfectly complements the Triumph’s stock fuel tank.

The front end features a powerful LED headlight and an enduro-style cowl from Rigid, mounted above a custom split mudguard design and flat track-style fork protectors. Towards the rear, you’ll find a bespoke MFix Performance radiator and an Evotech skid plate. Custom aluminum side panels complete the look.

MFix Workshop’s task was to turn this Triumph Street Twin into a true reflection of the client’s vision. Beyond the Rastafari-inspired design, the owner, who is a fan of the classic Yamaha SR400, wanted special engine badges that pay homage to it. These badges read ‘SR900’ and ‘SR400/500,’ referencing the Street Twin’s 900 cc engine. The lime green Acerbis heat shield attached to the robust two-into-one Zard exhaust system was another client-specified detail.

  • 2024 Triumph Speed 400 Motorcycle: 5 Things We Love

2024 Triumph Speed 400 Motorcycle: 5 Things We Love

Introducing the 2024 Triumph Speed 400, a true-blue modern classic motorcycle developed in collaboration with Bajaj Auto from India. This exciting new model has generated much anticipation, and for good reason. Let’s explore the five key features that make the Triumph Speed 400 a game-changer in the motorcycle world.

    Speed 400

    1. Classic Design with a Modern Twist: The new Speed 400 takes inspiration from Triumph’s larger-capacity modern classics like the Speed Twin 900 and Speed Twin 1200. While it may be smaller in size, it still boasts a strong road presence with its rounded headlamp, curvaceous fuel tank, and sleek tail section, showcasing the simplicity associated with Triumph’s classic designs.

    2. Affordable Yet High-Quality: In India, where Bajaj Auto will manufacture the Speed 400, it is priced at INR 233,000 (approximately $2,836). This makes it one of the most affordable sub-400cc performance-oriented roadsters. Triumph has confirmed that the Speed 400 will be competitively priced in the US too, without compromising on build quality and fit and finish, maintaining the brand’s high standards.

    3. Embracing Modern Technology: The Speed 400 blends the charm of a classic motorcycle with modern features. Its all-LED lighting system sets it apart from traditional neo-retro motorcycles that typically have halogen lights. The inclusion of LED headlamps, tail lamps, and turn indicators not only enhances visibility but also adds a touch of modernity.

    4. Equipped with Smart Technology: While not as technologically advanced as some other motorcycles, the Speed 400 still packs useful features for riders. It comes with ride-by-wire throttle, switchable traction control, and a torque-assist clutch. The instrument console combines an analog speedometer with an LCD panel displaying other essential information.

    5. Redefining the Entry-Level Category: The Speed 400 stands out from the crowd by offering a unique balance between understated simplicity and boldness. It doesn’t go overboard with flashy designs like some other motorcycles or remain as conservative as classic models. This positioning appeals to a broader audience and sets it apart from competitors like the Royal Enfield Classic 350.

The 2024 Triumph Speed 400 is set to revolutionize the sub-400cc motorcycle segment with its captivating design, affordability, modern technology, and global appeal. Triumph’s collaboration with Bajaj Auto and their focus on providing an exceptional riding experience for beginners make the Speed 400 a highly anticipated addition to the motorcycling world. Triumph enthusiasts and new riders alike can look forward to January 2024, when the Speed 400 will hit the roads and create a new era in the realm of modern classics.

  • Triumph Speed 400: A Game-Changer in the Entry-Level Motorcycle Market

Triumph Speed 400: A Game-Changer in the Entry-Level Motorcycle Market

Triumph, a renowned British motorcycle brand, has a long history of collaboration with India, catering to the two-wheel needs of the subcontinent. Recently, they have joined forces with Indian manufacturing giant Bajaj Auto to introduce the new Triumph Speed 400 and its sister model, the Scrambler 400 X. These bikes mark Triumph’s foray into the true entry-level market after more than 40 years and are highly significant for the company. Let’s take a closer look at the new Triumph Speed 400, which is set to hit the market in 2024.

    Triumph Speed 400

When the Speed 400 was unveiled to the press in June, it left a strong impression. Though the price wasn’t disclosed, experts expect it to compete favorably with other budget-focused motorcycles like BMW’s G 310 R, KTM’s 390 Duke, and Royal Enfield’s 350 range. What surprised everyone was the absence of noticeable cost-cutting measures, even though the bike is aimed at the $5,000 market. The Speed 400 will be manufactured in Thailand and Brazil while maintaining the high-quality standards associated with British Triumph motorcycles.

One of the most impressive aspects of the Speed 400 is that it has been designed from the ground up. Triumph didn’t borrow parts from other models, and its 398cc single-cylinder engine is unique to this bike, setting it apart from other motorcycles in India, Thailand, and beyond. Every component has been specifically and newly designed, establishing the Speed 400 as a true member of Triumph’s range of Modern Classics.

During a test ride in the English Cotswolds, the Speed 400 continued to impress. Its low seat height of 31.1 inches and rider-friendly nature make it approachable for newer riders. The bike’s build quality and design are typical of Triumph, evoking a sense of familiarity that fans of their larger-capacity classics will appreciate.

Starting the engine reveals a surprisingly charismatic exhaust note for a Euro 5-compliant motorcycle. The 398cc single-cylinder engine produces 39.5 horsepower, and its smooth fueling makes it easy to ride at slow speeds. The bike’s natural balance, comfortable handlebars, and low seat enhance the riding experience for riders of all skill levels.

On open roads, the Speed 400 delivers a pleasant surprise. With good midrange torque and crisp response between 4,000 and 6,000 rpm, the bike offers efficient acceleration, easily overtaking slower traffic. While it may not be a powerhouse like some superbikes, it can comfortably cruise at highway speeds and handle typical road conditions.

The suspension setup is relatively simple, featuring a 43mm non-adjustable inverted fork and a single rear shock with preload adjustment. Despite its short wheelbase, the bike remains stable and composed, offering a comfortable ride on various road surfaces. The Metzeler Sportec M9 RR tires provide excellent grip, enhancing the bike’s handling capabilities.

The braking system, featuring a single 300mm disc and ByBre radial caliper at the front, works effectively, complemented by the non-cornering traction control and dual-channel ABS. The Speed 400’s chassis balances comfort and sportiness, offering an energetic and enjoyable ride.

The bike has garnered significant attention and interest, with around 12,000 preorders from India alone. Triumph’s challenge now lies in positioning the Speed 400 at the right price point to attract more riders. If they manage to strike the right balance, the Speed 400 could become a bestseller in 2024.
