DJI Mini 4 Pro: A Closer Look at Leaked Image and Expected Upgrades

We’ve recently finished testing the DJI Air 3 controller, but it appears that DJI is already working on its next release, as indicated by the leaked image of the DJI Mini 4 Pro shared by well-known DJI leaker @Quadro_News on Twitter. This new model seems to be a follow-up to the DJI Mini 3 Pro from last year, which we consider one of the top drones on the market.

Although no specific specifications have been leaked alongside the image, we can make some informed assumptions based on its appearance. The most noticeable improvement is likely to be an omnidirectional obstacle-sensing system, similar to what was introduced in the Air 3. This can be inferred from the adjusted fisheye sensors positioned above the camera and gimbal. These sensors now face outwards to the sides instead of directly ahead, a departure from the setup on the Mini 3 Pro.

While other enhancements are less clear from the leaked image, it seems that the Mini 4 Pro might still feature only one camera. The Air 3 made a significant upgrade by introducing a dual-camera system, one of which offered 3x optical zoom.

Upon closer examination of the leaked image of the supposed Mini 4 Pro, it appears that there is only one camera, likely based on the same 1/1.3-inch CMOS sensor found in both the Mini 3 Pro and Air 3. This decision might have been made to keep the weight down. The Mini series is popular for being under 250 grams, allowing greater flexibility for flyers in various regions, such as needing only an Operator ID instead of a Flyer ID in the UK.

Another probable feature in the Mini 4 Pro is OcuSync 4.0, the latest iteration of DJI’s digital transmission system connecting drones to their controllers. This version enhances signal reliability and extends the range to 20km (12 miles), although legal restrictions in most regions limit the practical use of such a range.

This development suggests that DJI might pair the Mini 4 Pro with the new DJI RC 2 controller, a feature that also accompanied the Air 3. Although the leaked image implies a minor upgrade, the Mini 4 Pro will likely incorporate most of the quality-of-life improvements seen in the recent all-rounder model, albeit in a more compact package. This could make it another fantastic travel companion.

Considering that the DJI Mini 3 Pro was released in May 2022, it’s just over a year old. Would DJI really introduce a successor this soon? Given DJI’s recent pattern of releases, it seems quite plausible. As an owner of the Mini 3 Pro, I wouldn’t be too bothered about upgrading if this were to be the case.

Based on the leaks, the Mini 4 Pro seems to be a modest upgrade, possibly aligning it with the Air 3 in terms of its controller and connectivity. If the Mini 4 Pro boasts an omnidirectional obstacle-sensing system, OcuSync 4.0, and the new RC 2 controller, it would be a sensible update, especially anticipating the upcoming shopping season.

DJI has started to create sub-categories within its models, so we might expect to see a more affordable DJI Mini 4 (perhaps in 2024) accompanied by the new DJI RC-N2 controller. This controller comes with an improved processor, enhanced antennas, and support for OcuSync 4.0.

Yamaha Dynamic 2024 Cross-Country Motorcycle Lineup with Innovative Upgrades

Yamaha has introduced its 2024 cross-country motorcycle lineup, featuring the YZ125X and YZ250X two-stroke models, as well as the YZ250FX and YZ450FX four-stroke variants. These off-road contenders under the bLU cRU banner showcase cosmetic updates, including all-blue seats and fresh graphics. Notably, one of the models has received a comprehensive platform upgrade.

The 2024 Yamaha YZ450FX has undergone a significant transformation, mirroring the advancements seen in Yamaha’s flagship motocross bike. This year, the YZ450FX boasts a complete overhaul. Its fuel-injected liquid-cooled DOHC four-stroke 450cc engine has been meticulously redesigned to prioritize factors like reduced weight, compactness, higher rev capabilities, and increased power output throughout the entire RPM spectrum.

The engine enhancements encompass new shapes for the intake and exhaust ports, larger-diameter titanium intake valves, and a fresh forged aluminum piston, cylinder body, crankshaft, and balancer assembly. Yamaha’s shift from wet-sump to dry-sump lubrication is noteworthy, as it contributes to the improved design. The engine’s rev limit has been raised by 500 RPM, and the ECU settings have been fine-tuned to cater to the unique demands of cross-country and enduro-style racing.

Turning our attention to the 2024 Yamaha YZ250FX, this model introduces an innovative clutch design that ditches traditional coil springs. Instead, it adopts a new disc spring setup and integrates the primary gear and basket into a single steel unit. Yamaha touts this configuration for its benefits, which include a more compact, lighter, and durable assembly that offers smooth engagement and an exceptional feel. The clutch cover is also redesigned to enhance longevity and minimize wear. Furthermore, the YZ250FX presents a new wide-ratio transmission that employs a tri-shaft layout, optimizing gear ratios for cross-country riding.

In terms of Electronic Fuel Injection (EFI) tunability, Yamaha’s four-stroke cross-country models maintain their high standard. For 2024, the YZ450FX takes this a step further with the introduction of the next-generation Power Tuner app. This app is not only user-friendly but also packed with enhanced functionality. Engine mapping adjustments are facilitated through a convenient quick setting slide bar.

A novel traction control system, integrated into the app, offers riders a choice of three intervention levels—high, low, or off. Furthermore, a new lap timer and bike setup guides enhance the user experience. The YZ450FX also boasts a new handlebar-mounted switch, allowing riders to effortlessly switch between two preloaded engine maps—one standard and the other optimized for challenging conditions. These maps can be further personalized through the app.

Turning to the 2024 Yamaha YZ125X, Yamaha’s focus has been primarily on refining the chassis. A completely reimagined aluminum bilateral beam frame comprises over 10 distinct aluminum components expertly welded together. This meticulous approach enabled engineers to fine-tune each component’s rigidity and flex characteristics, resulting in optimal performance. This newly designed frame offers improved handling, a lighter sensation, enhanced bump absorption, and heightened traction.

Yamaha has also dedicated attention to ergonomics, resulting in a slimmer, flatter, and more compact body profile. Notable updates include a narrower fuel tank, redesigned radiator shrouds, and a contoured seat. Rider comfort and positioning have been enhanced, providing increased legroom between the seat and footpegs and a revised handlebar placement. The footpegs now feature lightweight aluminum alloy mounting brackets, and a new compact PVC handlebar pad completes the package.

The YZ450FX retains its fully adjustable KYB Speed Sensitive System (SSS) 48mm coil-spring fork and KYB shock. Both components have undergone revisions to align with the updated chassis. Particularly, the shock boasts specifically tuned damping characteristics. These adjustments translate to a 10mm-lower seat height, improving the center of gravity and overall handling, particularly in tight and technical trail sections. Additionally, fork compression damping adjustments can now be made by hand.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5: A Closer Look at Expected Upgrades and Features

The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 is about to be announced at Samsung Galaxy Unpacked 2023 on July 26, and there are several improvements that we hope to see in this new foldable phone.

1. Wider cover screen: The current cover screen on the Galaxy Z Fold 4 is narrow and has an awkward aspect ratio. We’d love to see a wider and more sensibly shaped cover screen, similar to the Google Pixel Fold.

2. Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra-caliber cameras: The cameras on Samsung’s foldable phones have been decent but not on par with their flagship Galaxy S series. We hope to see the same high-quality cameras found on the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra, with a 200MP wide sensor, a 12MP ultra-wide, a 10MP telephoto with 3x optical zoom, and a 10MP periscope with 10x optical zoom.

3. No crease: Current foldable phones have a visible crease in the screen where it folds. We wish for the Galaxy Z Fold 5 to have a smoother screen without a noticeable crease, even if it’s just a 15% reduction in size.

4. A lower price: Foldable phones are expensive, and we understand that high-end tech comes at a cost. However, we hope that the Galaxy Z Fold 5 will be priced lower than its predecessor, the Galaxy Z Fold 4, which starts at a hefty price point.

5. A bigger battery: With the Galaxy Z Fold 5 expected to have a large tablet-sized screen, a bigger battery is crucial to ensure longer battery life. The Galaxy Z Fold 4 had a 4,400mAh battery, but we hope to see a larger battery capacity in the new model.

6. Dust resistance: Samsung’s foldable phones have good water resistance, but they lack dust resistance. It would be reassuring to see the Galaxy Z Fold 5 with an IP58 rating, indicating a significant level of dust resistance.

While some of these improvements have been rumored, others remain uncertain. We’ll have to wait for the official announcement on July 26 to know the exact features and upgrades that the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 will offer.
