The Google Story: Two Friends Who Changed the Internet

You may not believe that but before 2000, many people were using books to find information. Nowadays, things are different and faster. Want to know how tall a giraffe is? Google it. Curious about the distance between London and Manchester? Google it. Google has made life much easier with billions of daily searches. It all started with a search engine named “BackRub and two loyal friends.”

Larry Page and Sergey Brin came to be as friends at Stanford University in California in 1995. As their friendship going by, they thought about exciting ways to search for information on the net world. There were already search engines at that time. “Archie,” created in 1990, is often considered the first one.

Other search engines showed results based on how many times a search phrase was used. But Page and Brin wanted to create one that showed information based on importance and relevance. That’s where the name BackRub came from. The program looked at the internet’s “backlinks” — the number of other pages linked to a page — to figure out how important a website was.

In 1997, they changed the name to “Google.” This was based on the word “googol” — a math term for the number 1 followed by 100 zeros. The name showed that the search engine could find many results. In 1998, Page and Brin started the company. They got money from investors, including Amazon founder Jeff Bezos.

They began working in a garage but soon needed more space. They found a home in Mountain View, California, where they are now. They kept growing. By 2004, the search engine had 200 million searches a day. Google also started new services like Gmail in 2004, Google Maps in 2005, and Google Chrome in 2008. Google also bought other companies, like YouTube.

In 2015, they accomplished a massive success and it was like making a new company called Alphabet Inc. Google was like to be the biggest part of this new company. Today, Alphabet Inc. is one of the world’s most valuable companies and it is worth almost 1.6 trillion USD. Now we are doing google for research and many difficult tasks.

In international football, we often wait long for thrilling clashes. One such match is happening today night. Two football giants, France and Spain, will meet in the semi-finals of Euro 2024. Both teams are confident of their victory in the grand final of the Euro 2024.

Spain has showcased the best football in this year’s Euro. They play very attacking football, keeping their opponents on their toes. No other team has attacked as much as Spain in this tournament.

France, on the other hand, has disappointed many supporters. Their dull and slow style of play has not satisfied fans. No one expected France to reach the semi-finals with such slow football. They are struggling with Kylian Mbappe and Griezmann, not in form.

However, France is always a strong opponent in football. They had to wait until a penalty shootout to win against Portugal in the quarter-finals. Their defense is very strong, making it tough for Spain to break through.

Today’s semi-final between France and Spain promises to be entertaining. Both teams are fully prepared to challenge each other, fighting for a place in the final. So, you can predict who will be the winner but it is truly difficult.

Tragic Fates of Those Who Challenged Putin’s Rule

The President of Russia wields immense power, making it challenging for anyone, both inside and outside the country, to oppose him easily. Those who have dared to oppose him or the Russian government have often met untimely deaths. This article will shed light on the stories of some individuals who found themselves in such unfortunate circumstances.

One notable figure is Prigozhin, the leader of the Russian Wagmar group. In 2014, Prigozhin established the Wagner Group, a state-funded private military company, with the aim of supporting Putin’s interests in Ukraine. In June of a certain year, Prigozhin played a significant role in suppressing a rebellion.

When he eventually declared an end to the uprising, Putin exiled him to Belarus. Tragically, Prigogine’s life came to a tragic end in a plane crash on August 23, 2023. There are suspicions that Russia may have been involved in causing the plane crash, possibly with Putin’s involvement.

Another figure, Yushenkov, was a prominent liberal Russian political leader. He led the Liberal Russia political party until his assassination on April 17, 2003, when he was shot dead. Yushenkov had been working to expose the involvement of the Federal Security Service in the 1999 bombings.

Stanislav Markelov, the President of the Rule of Law Institute, was another individual who met a tragic fate. Markelov dedicated his work to advocating for the rights of victims of the Moscow Theater hostage crisis. Unfortunately, he was shot dead.

Natalia Estemirova, who had Russian and Chechen heritage, also worked on similar causes. She contributed to newspapers such as The Voice and The Worker of Grozny. Tragically, Estemirova was abducted from her home on July 15, 2009, and her lifeless body was discovered the following day.

He joined Firestone Duncan as a tax auditor for Hermitage Capital Management, a client firm. Magnitsky uncovered a colossal tax fraud committed by a government official, marking the largest in Russian history.

He was held in prison for 11 months without trial, where he endured torture and ultimately lost his life in custody, just 13 days before he was supposed to be brought to court or released. His requests for medical attention went unanswered.
