Nissan is replacing its fully-electric Leaf with the new Ariya. The Ariya offers more space, longer range, greater power, and a stylish design compared to the Leaf. It comes in front- and all-wheel drive options, with a range of 265 to 304 miles on a single charge, depending on the battery pack. The Ariya can generate up to 389 horsepower, making it quite powerful. Inside, it boasts Nissan’s most elegant interior yet, featuring wood-trim pieces and haptic buttons on the dashboard. However, it lacks excitement and has a slower DC-fast charging rate compared to some rivals.
The 2024 Nissan Ariya is expected to start at around $45,000 and go up to $57,000, depending on the trim and options. This puts it above the Leaf and other affordable EVs but below the base price of the Tesla Model Y. The entry-level Ariya Engage has a smaller battery pack and a shorter range of 216 miles. For those prioritizing range, the Venture+ trim offers the longest driving range at 304 miles per charge.
Unlike the Leaf, which only comes with front-wheel drive, the Ariya offers optional all-wheel drive via a dual-front/rear-electric-motor configuration. The e-4ORCE all-wheel-drive model is significantly quicker, going from zero to 60 mph in just 5.0 seconds. The Ariya provides a calm, stable ride suitable for most buyers but lacks the sporty nature preferred by driving enthusiasts.
The Ariya offers various driving ranges depending on the trim and drivetrain. The Venture+ trim provides up to 304 miles of range, while front-wheel drive models offer up to 289 miles. The top-spec Platinum+ offers up to 265 miles. The base Engage trim compromises on range due to its smaller battery pack, offering only 216 miles per charge. With the optional all-wheel drive, the Ariya offers up to 272 miles of range.
Charging the Ariya is convenient, as it can be done at home on standard outlets or at public charging stations, including DC fast-charging ports. The interior of the Ariya features a futuristic and minimalistic design, with a smooth dashboard and zero-gravity seats for added comfort. While the cabin lacks traditional buttons, it offers a spacious and comfortable environment for occupants, with ample room for both front and rear passengers.
