In the ever-expanding realm of smart devices, even clothing items are joining the list of ordinary objects turning into intelligent gadgets. A recent addition to this trend is a pair of pants that is sure to leave you astonished, as reported by the Times of India.
Dubbed “smart pants,” these innovative trousers have garnered attention for their unique functionality. When the zipper of these pants is opened, an immediate notification is sent to a connected smartphone. This feature can be particularly useful if the notification is set to be received on a partner’s phone, letting them know when the pants are being unzipped.
A Twitter user named Guy DuPont shared a video showcasing these smart pants. The video demonstrates how a push notification is received on a mobile device as soon as the pants’ zipper is opened. In the tweet, DuPont mentions that he created these intelligent pants at the request of a friend who desired a garment that would reveal the time whenever the zipper was undone. The notification would also indicate the duration for which the zipper remained open, providing comprehensive information on the mobile device.
DuPont’s tweet said he attached Hall Effect sensors to the jeans using safety pins and added a strong magnet to the zipper. This setup requires cables that connect to an ESP-32. As a result, when the zipper is opened, the impact sensor is activated for a few seconds before triggering a notification on the connected phone.
It is worth noting that these smart pants cannot be washed like regular pants due to the inclusion of sensors. Additionally, as the sensor remains constantly connected to the mobile device, it may consume a higher amount of the phone’s battery.
This inventive creation highlights the growing intersection of fashion and technology. With the advent of smart clothing, everyday garments are being infused with features that enhance convenience and connectivity, pushing the boundaries of what we consider to be traditional apparel.
