If you’re thinking about getting a new phone, it might be a good idea to wait for the Samsung Galaxy S24. The Galaxy S23 had some great deals during Black Friday and Cyber Week, but waiting for the S24 could be worth it, especially if you’re not in a rush for a new phone. While the S24 may not be a huge technological jump from the S23, it could be more future-proof, lasting longer and improving over time.
Samsung usually launches its new phones in late January or early February, making the Galaxy S24 family, including a likely Galaxy S24 Ultra, anticipated soon. Historically, Samsung has been among the first to use new Qualcomm chipsets, and we expect the S24 to have at least some models with Qualcomm’s new Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 platform.
While hardware improvements like a better camera and potential use of titanium are expected, the real reason to wait is for the new Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset. This chipset comes with a built-in neural engine for machine learning features. Even though Qualcomm has shown the potential of this new Snapdragon, it’s up to developers and manufacturers, like Samsung, to bring these AI features to life.
The Galaxy S24 is likely to have AI features, as Samsung has already announced a language model named “Samsung Gauss” for future phones. AI is becoming crucial for smartphones, and having the right parts, like a capable neural engine, will be essential for running new AI software. In the future, certain One UI and Android features may only work on phones with the right neural engine, similar to how specific games require minimum graphics requirements on a PC.
